Acceptable file formats:
We can accept files as : STL, 3MF, OBJ, STEP (email to check if you have another file format).
The 3D printable files available on sites like Printables, Thingiverse, Makerworld and thousands of others will be downloadable in at least one of the above formats. Any 3D CAD software will also be able to export at least one of them.
Size:
The maximum size we can print is 250mm x 250mm x 225mm
Materials we offer:
PLA, Is a rigid plastic made from plant material (according to the manufacturers). It is only suitable for indoor use as It’s affected by UV and temperature, for example leaving a PLA object in a car on a hot day could leave it soft and misshapen.
PLA comes in a huge range of colours with a slightly shiny finish.
Matte PLA has a matte finish and looks more sophisticated for decorative objects. It also hides layer lines better than regular PLA.
There are loads of other PLAs with specialised colours and finishes; metalic, multicoloured, metalic and multicoloured (like all the flexi dragons you see) and about a billion more so if you have seen one that you like ask and we’ll see if we can get it.
PETG, Is a more durable plastic than PLA, it can be left outside and is less susceptible to heat. It has a very slightly softer feel than basic PLA. PETG is available in a more limited selection of colours.
Other materials: There are a wide range of more specialised plastics suitable for everything from squidgy shoes to car engine parts just get in touch if you are after something printed in something fancy. The price of some of the materials gets quite fancy too!
Colours:
Our machines can print up to four colours but using more than one colour does increase the material and time and therefore the price. The form below includes a selection of colours but if you are after something a bit fancy drop us an email info@3Dp.co.nz.
Cost:
The material, complexity, strength required and size of the object all effect the cost.
The material is charged by weight. Basic PLA or PETG the most commonly used plastics are around about $38.00 per kg. So as an example a pencil pot, (very roughly, how big is a pencil pot?) uses 70gm of plastic and therefor costs $2.66 (+GST) in materials.
Printing time for PLA is charged at 15 cents a minute = $9.00 an hour. The pencil pot imagined above could take 100 minutes to print in 1 colour = $15.00. So with the materials $17.66 + GST.
